Must-have Update April 24, 2010 Thomas Tidswell (England) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Having had an Ixus 70 for a few years, as well as a Canon 40D which got very little use due to the superb quality of the Ixus 70, when the Ixus 210 arrived I couldn't resist it. The promise was less buttons, a bigger view screen that is the touch access to the menus, coupled to the legendary build-quality, the lens, the name. It fits straight into the leather case the 70 came out of. I'd taken a while to get to grips with the choices the 70 offered but the 210 is "Today". If you're thinking of up-dating, go for it...the touch-screen control makes it worth every penny. The camera is, of course, legendary. If you've got a family, like me, they'll be even happier getting their hands on the spare Ixus 70 you've suddenly acquired.
This camera is amazing April 23, 2010 Christopher J. Whitehead (york, UK) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
This camera was bought as a present for my wife. Our Casio camera packed up two years ago.
I read up on all the point n shoots. I decided between two touch screens - this and the Sony TX1 which was about £80 less than the Canon. The Canon is well worth the extra.
I played with them both on two separate occasions and found the display of the Sony didn't accurately represent the colours in real life. (Thanks to the guy in the very colourful/pink/yellow tracky top walking past as I demo'ed the Sony. Not good, and I didn't like the fuzzy screen either.)
I am now amazed by how good this Canon is.
After five days of playing with it I have not yet had to charge the battery, (after its initial charge), it still shows three bar on the battery indicator.
The touch screen system took a little bit of practice but once you get the hang of it, the whole interface is really easy and fast to use.
It's a good size that fits in any pocket.
The camera is quick to react, start up and take pictures.
I have taken about 100 pictures and deleted about fifty. The program mode is easy to use as are the colour swap modes and such like but we won't be using them that much.
The quality of the pictures I have taken:
all colours good and vivid (you can easily adjust the colour settings afterwards)
close up shots are excellent - the best I have seen
indoor shots and scenic pictures are great
buildings show great detail
skies look crystal clear
beach scenes look great
not tried portraits yet but I bet they will be as good
wide angle shots are good and easy to switch between wide and normal
I took one picture of an orange high vis jacket against a black background and you could make out the pixillated edge of the orange jacket but that is the only thing to mention in the hundred pictures I have taken and I can live with this.
beaches, landscapes and animals are fab.
The video part seems ok to me, well it seems brilliant but I've never had a video camera or similar before so I am more than happy with it. The image goes a bit grainy if you zoom into an object whilst filming but don't let that put you off this brilliant camera.
When the guy in the store showed me the tap-to-change picture thingy I just thought what a gimmick, however, now I'm using the camera I love this gimmick and use it all the time - its just so easy!
I initially wanted a gold one as a present for the wife but as soon as I saw the black one I thought that looked superb, especially with the matching IXUS leather case that I purchased at the same time. If the wife doesn't like it then'll I'll have this camera for myself - it's that good.
The only negative aspect is that it doesn't come with a cradle or dock but then so what and the touch screen shows the greasy finger marks when its switched off but again so what - just keep a lens cloth handy.
So this camera has a brilliant spec and picture quality whilst it is so easy to use (once you learn what the symbols mean which is pretty easy anyway)
I would deffo recommend this as worth every penny.
Brilliant! March 25, 2010 S. Evans (Somerset) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
I absolutely LOVE this camera!
As previously stated the touch screen can be a bit awkward for changing settings, but once you know where everything is it's a doddle. The picture quality is excellent (certainly the best I've seen a compact digital produce), and the other features are great too - smile / face recognition and colour accent being my favourites!
Also worth noting, I bought the 16GB memory card and it holds a huge number of pictures when you consider the quality of the shots. Definately worth spending the extra on a larger capacity card.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this camera to anyone looking for a lightweight and easy to use compact.
This Camera is the Dog's Bits July 31, 2010 Amazon200200 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The photo quality is excellent but the main surprise for me was the quality of the video. Amazing. Battery life is very good and with a 16 bit sd card, it is possible to take really good longer videos. Normally I avoid the touch screen stuff. Much prefer Nokia phones than Iphone for example, but this camera works. For me it is a bargain.
Buy it !! July 16, 2010 Mrs. B. MINTO (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my son to replace the one that had been stolen. He wanted to upgrade to a touch screen. He is thrilled with it everytime he use's it he discovers more features and you really cannot fault this camera. If you buy this make sure you get a case for it and you will also need an SDHC card as their is not one with it not sure how they can sell something that won't work untill you buy a card for it I surpose it's to keep the price down
but in my view its false economy
